Thanksgiving Sunday November 24, 2024
This year we will be celebrating Thanksgiving a little differently. We will be giving thanks and in the spirit of Thanksgiving we will continue to follow Jesus' command to reach out to the marginalized.
Rather than collecting food we will be lifting up and asking for blessings for Refugees and
Immigrants. We will also show them that they are loved and beloved children of God by
contributing to the United Church of Christ New Hampshire Conference Immigration and Refugee Support Group (IRSG) by sending them a donation of $500.00 from our mission fund.
If you feel moved to add to that contribution you can do so by clicking here or by submitting a check with IRSG in the memo line. The mission of the IRSG is:
We envision a community that cares for all of its members and in which all migrants who seek safety and freedom from oppression and harm are welcomed to the United States – and to New
Hampshire, if they choose – with dignity and compassion. We respect the personal power and
agency of the immigrants in our midst as the decision makers in their own lives, and we understand our role as offering support and accompaniment whenever we are privileged to do so. We are guided by our faith and by love as we dedicate ourselves to the quest for justice and welcome for all.
The IRSG work encompasses:
-
SUPPORT AND ACCOMPANIMENT for asylum-seekers in our midst, with a particular focus on those who have experienced or are currently experiencing ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) detention.
-
EDUCATION AND POLICY ADVOCACY regarding immigrant rights and immigration issues.
What do the funds sent to the IRSG Enable them to do?
-
Provide individuals detained in NH by ICE with Modest Jail Commissary Funds
-
Post bonds, when possible, for immigrants incarcerated by U.S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement (ICE).
-
Provide modest "Temporary Financial Assistance"
-
Provide assistance with legal fees, in special circumstances
We are all related to immigrants and ancestors who came to this country seeking a better life and some of our relatives came here seeking asylum and safety. While we give thanks for our good fortune and blessings this thanksgiving, let us also remember that we are called to joyfully share the good news of God’s inclusive love and care with our neighbors.
Wishing you all a very blessed Thanksgiving.
In Peace and Love,
Rev. Mike
