 Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care
The Council person for Pastoral Care should organize a task group to provide networks that care for, support, and provide information to those in need within the church community. Its purpose is to create and maintain a “spirit” of care throughout the Congregation where it is natural and simple to extend the hand of care. The goal is to create networks than can deal with special needs as they arise and to inform people who can help with those needs.
Groups that fall under the umbrella of Pastoral Care include:
Parish Nurse
Hospitality
Caring Cooks
For ongoing joys and concerns within our community of faith, we have a prayer chain that spreads the word and enfolds people in love. Each participant in the prayer chain is asked to make “live contact” with the next person on the chain, share the joy or concern verbatim and hear it repeated back, and then take the joy or concern from their heart to the Heart of God in prayer. No prior experience or expertise is necessary. Please contact Ann Colcord if you are interested in joining the prayer chain.
Caring Cooks
Caring Cooks is an informal network of small communities who come together to share in the preparation of food for families or individuals within our congregation who may need food or a meal during a difficult time. Caring Cooks very often supplies food items for our church's Friday evening meal at Cross Roads Homeless shelter. Our congregation has been so blessed by this ongoing ministry. If you would like to join a Caring Cooks group or begin a circle of your own, please contact Nancy Beveridge or Colleen Ridge.
Parish Nurse Program
At the annual meeting in January, the congregation approved the beginnings of a Parish Nurse Program. Ms. Janet Sanborn A Health and Wellness Committee has been formed, surveys of the health and wellness needs of the congregation are being edited and soon sent out, and a job description is being put together. A parish nurse will be a resource for information, an educator for preventative health and wellness, and an advocate in the maze of health professionals and services. As the Health and Wellness Committee learns more about the needs of the congregation, the program's ministry will be tailored in accordance with those needs. If you are interested in playing a role with the Parish Nurse Program, please contact Colleen Ridge or Janet Sanborn.
