 Pastor(s)/Parish Relations
Pastor(s)/Parish Relations Committee
Misson Statement
Pastor(s) Parish Relations Commitee
will seek to enhance the relationship between the Pastor and the Congregation.
Relationship to Council: The Pastor/Parish Relations Committee will be related to Church Council by making the Moderator an ex officio, voice without vote, member of the Pastor/Parish Relations Committee (PPRC). The Moderator will therefore take decisions made by PPRC to the Church Council for communication and dialogue.
Scope: Pastor/Parish Relations Committee will seek to enhance the relationship between the pastor and the congregation through regular meetings and suggestions made to the pastor and the Church Council as to how congregational life may be improved to benefit the relationship. In the first two years of a minister's tenure or during times of high conflict, the PPRC shall meet at least once a month during the non-summer months. Any further meetings shall be at the discretion of PPRC and the pastor. Unless there is an issue of confidentiality which concerns the gross malfeasance of the pastor, PPRC will notify the pastor of all meetings it has independent of her/him. After the first two years of a pastor's tenure, PPRC will meet with the pastor at least once every two months and at the discretion of PPRC and the pastor.
In discussion of difficult issues, PPRC or the pastor may consult and/or ask Conference Staff and the Ministry Committee of the Rockingham Association for assistance.
Members: Pastor/Parish Relations Committee will consist of three members from the pastor's search committee who will serve ex officio for one year on PPRC. One of those members will serve for one more year. Other members will be from the current PPRC. The first PPRC will serve staggered terms which will provide continuity and new membership. The first two years after a new pastorate PPRC shall have six members. In the third year, it shall have five. Non search committee members of the first PPRC shall have one member serve one year, one member serve two years, and one member serve three years. New members for PPRC will be selected by the Planning Committee in consultation with the pastor. Members of the PPRC who do not attend three consecutive meetings shall be asked whether they wish to continue as a member of PPRC. If they do not wish to continue, Church Council shall select a new person for PPRC in consultation with the pastor. If they do and miss three more consecutive meetings, Church Council will be asked by PPRC to appoint a new member. The new member will inherit the term of the member who asked to leave or was given leave.
