Overview of Church Council Membership:

A Council term is three years. Regular meetings are held the second Wednesday of each month, and begin at 7PM. Each meeting is begun with a prayer and devotional, and closed with a prayer, led by one Council member on a rotating basis. The devotional can be an article, Bible verse, or anything that has spiritual meaning for you. Devotional time is about 5-10 minutes. Also on a rotating basis Council members are asked to serve communion and to clean up afterwards on communion Sundays. The Worship Task Group leader usually sets this schedule. Each Council member is asked to be responsible for one of task groups. These assignments can stay the same or change each year at the will of the members. Each task group should have a notebook that is given to the responsible Council member. Council is also broken up into three standing committees that work on special projects, and each member is assigned to one of these committees. Occasionally, there are special Council or Church meetings called to discuss a vote or change in the church. Council members should attend training and/or team building programs organized by the Moderator(s). Council members should also attend “Prepare to Serve” workshops at least once during their tenure. There is a Council retreat in the summer, and one in February when the new Council members join. These have traditionally been held on a Sunday afternoon from 1-5 PM.
